About the role
Lend a hand across the network. Community volunteer openings cover the work that makes the food community run: community cooking sessions, market and demo days, harvest days with partner farms, and event support across the VK ecosystem. No kitchen background required — you will be paired with a lead who shows you the ropes. Every session earns produce credit you can redeem for fresh produce, and the best volunteers are the first people we call for paid roles.
Responsibilities
- Assist chefs and program leads at community cooking sessions
- Help set up and break down market days, demos, and community events
- Join harvest days with partner farms — washing, packing, and loading
- Greet guests, guide them to stations, and keep the room moving
- Keep workstations, pantry, and equipment clean and organized
- Represent the network with care, courtesy, and follow-through
Qualifications
- Comfortable on your feet for a few hours and able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Food Handler card is a plus, not required
- 16 and older — volunteers under 18 need a guardian on file
- Reliable, on time, and steady with a task list
- Interest in cooking, farming, or community food work welcome
